The Realm Eclipsed

Ok, so here's the thing. Here I am, walking around this filthy rock, acting. Always acting. Pretending to be someone who is just like everyone else. Which believe me is enough of a challenge as it is. Everyone says you must be yourself, but little do they realize how little everyone will permit you to "be yourself".

They all say to be true to who you are, which would appear to be the foundation of a very adaptive and accepting society...but in reality they all have these rules that you're expected to live alongside.

They all say you're supposed to eat healthy foods and work out 3 times a week and drink 6 to 8 glasses of water every day, even if you're not thirsty...

They all say you're supposed to move out of your parent's nest at the age of 18, go to college to get a job that makes at least 40K a year, own a house, a car, do your taxes...

They all say you're supposed to date around, until you meet the "right one" and then you're supposed to get married...

But it doesn't end there...

Then you have to have lots of sex with your spouse so that if your female you get pregnant, which doesn't seem quite fair because as a female you're expected to WANT your body to be stretched out, beaten and dilapidated all in the the name of a very self-sacrificial practice called "motherhood".

If you happen to be male (which I am not) you won't have to be self sacrificial on a physical level as much, but you are expected to be an upstanding role model and provider and protector. If anything goes wrong, it's automatically your fault.

Your children grow up learning their life skills from your example, and begin the cycle all over again.

This is what is expected of you in this world...At least if you're dwelling in a thriving country. If you're in a poorer country, all the rules change to a more basic goal of survival.

This is what it means to be...human.

Which I am not.
